Hey Deckies! ![]()
If you’re like me and staring down huge piles of numbers for pilotage exams, you know how brutal memorizing them can feel. Over the last few weeks I’ve been playing with a memory-system approach that’s really helped — and I wanted to share it with you all, along with a little tool I built that might make memorizing soundings more manageable.
Memory System Summary (The Major System)
The Major Memory System turns numbers into consonant sounds, which then become words and stories (and AI pictures) — much easier for the brain to remember than a string of digits.
Quick idea:
-
1 → T/D
-
2 → N
-
3 → M
-
4 → R
-
5 → L
-
6 → J/SH/CH
-
7 → K/G
-
8 → F/V
-
9 → P/B
-
0 → S/Z
So something like 314159 becomes M-T-R-T-L-S → “MOON TILES” → way easier to remember than just digits.
Number → Letter Cheat Sheet
Here’s a handy reference you can print or screenshot:
0 → S, Z
1 → T, D
2 → N
3 → M
4 → R
5 → L
6 → J, SH, CH
7 → K, G (hard)
8 → F, V
9 → P, B
Turn a number string into a phrase or mini-story, then drill it, and it sticks!
Try My AI-Powered Flashcard Drill App
I’ve built a little web app to help you practice with your own sets:
https://major-system-memory-companion-848905625396.us-west1.run.app/
How it works
-
(optional) Upload your own flashcards in the required format:
5 rows × 10 columns (so 50 numbers per upload). -
The AI will help drill you — but right now it’s a bit conversational, so you need to lead it:
-
Say: “Let’s drill using flashcards”
-
Or for stories: “Make a story with these number ”
-
Feel free to be bossy — it respects your direction!
-
Heads up:
It’s still a little buggy, but if you find it helpful (or weirdly hilarious), let me know!
Feedback Welcome
If you try it out, hit me up:
-
Did it help you remember better?
-
Bugs you encountered?
-
Ideas to make it smoother?
